Fun with lasers...

Eddie had no clue what was going on, but Duke was on a mission to get the red dot...whatever it was.

They're so cute when they've got all that baby fat. Check out Duke's baby belly!

Yoga...

People pay good money to learn how to get into these positions. Not to mention the time it takes your body to bend in those angles. Duke has mastered that at 9 weeks old!

Welcome home daddy!

Nothing makes you forget about a bad day at work like your puppies greeting you when you get home.

Sleeping arrangements...

The best time to capture close-ups of puppies is while they're sleeping. Since puppies do alot of that, it gives me a change to really zoom in on them without worrying about them moving and changing the shot. Kinda makes you wanna lay down and take a nap yourself, huh!

Bedding...

Duke & Eddie got a new blanket for their house. So clean and cozy looking, huh! They like it!

Step into the sun...

I took them out in the backyard again today since they don't have all their shots and it's not yet safe for them to walk around the neighborhood just yet. Since they're cooped up in their pen all day when we're at work, it's nice for them to stretch out and soak up some sun.

New place, new toys, new names!

We gave Spike & Rusty their new toys today....a red ball, a yellow squeaky ball & a fluffy squeak bone. Their favorite was the white dish towel they found on the floor.

Spike & Rusty aren't bad names, but we wanted to give them names that have some meaning to us. We both thought about it and we decided on Duke (instead of Spike) & Eddie (instead of Rusty).

We came up with those names because my boyfriend and I both like to surf and since they now live in Surf City, they should have names to match. They were named after 2 Hawaiian surfers, Duke Kahanamoku & Eddie Aikau.

Home sweet home...

Spike & Rusty made it through the long drive from LA to HB. At first they were whining a little, but by the time I got on the freeway, they were fast asleep. I just hoped that they wouldn't get car sick during the long drive or have the urge to pee or poop!

We finally arrived at their new house and they were so excited to get out of that crate! I think they knew they were home.

I took them out and let them smell their new home. They were so curious about every little nook and cranny. I took them in the backyard so they could get familiar with the outside smells. They looked pretty excited to me!

Good-bye LA...hello OC!

Today was the day! I went to pick Spike & Rusty up today and met all the other puppies that they lived with. It was so cute to see all of them running around and playing with each other. If I could, I probably would have taken all of them home!

They said their goodbye's to their brothers and sisters and I kinda felt a little sad to take them from the group. I could have picked any 2 that I wanted, and I almost picked Jake (the black one), but I really liked Rusty's color. Most people have the black/white combo when it comes to labs, so I wanted something different. I finally picked Spike and Rusty, scooped them up, put them in their traveling crate and we were off to their new home in Huntington Beach!

We're approved!

They called us back today and said that they reviewed our application and that we were approved to adopt! I was so excited to hear that! I get to pick them up tomorrow afternoon and finally take them home! I can't wait!

Love at first sight...

Today is the day we get to check out the puppies! I called the rescue agency a couple days ago and they said that they were having an "adoption day" at a pet store in LA, so we made the trek out there.

We were so excited to see them that we got there an hour early! Finally, the ladies in charge of the adoption day arrived, but with no puppies. They were there to set-up the gates and paperwork and they said the puppies were on their way. Yay! This was the preview of our adoption choices that we both liked.

When they finally got there, they unloaded all the cute puppies. There were all there for us to play with inside this big metal pen.

It was so hard to choose, but we decided on 2 boys, a blonde one (Spike) and a brownish red one (Rusty). This was the very first meeting.

With that rescue agency that we went through, anyone who wanted to adopt had to go through a process before they can take any puppies home. We were kind of bummed to find out that we couldn't take them home with us today, so we filled out the application hoping that they wouldn't take long to get back to us. Now's the hard part....the waiting.

Not a blonde, but a redhead...

Here's another one that they have available! He's a cutie too! His name is Rusty. Decisions, decisions.

Puppy possibilities...

Here's a picture that was sent by the rescue agency. These are 3 of the options that we'll have for adoption. 1 girl (pink collar) and 2 boys (red collars). They're so cute I want to just adopt them all!

Poi dogs...

We made the decision to adopt poi dogs. In Hawaii, a poi dog is a type of mutt that you would find roaming the streets. Now it's commonly used to describe mixed breeds or mutts.

I've never had a purebred dog before and I've always liked the different look of poi dogs. They have a unique quality to them.

I read that poi dogs are not as prone to certain breed disorders (i.e. hip dysplasia, cataracts, etc.) unlike purebread dogs. Just another good reason to adopt!

How many?

We decided to look for 2 dogs instead of 1 in order for them to keep each other company and so we won't end up having one of those "separation anxiety" dogs that you always read about. =)

What kine?

We were looking for any type of lab mix, since those were one of our favorite breeds. I just started calling the rescue agencies and local pounds from the website to see what kind of puppies they had. I finally found one rescue agency that just recently aquired a litter of puppies.

I'm throwing in the towel...

I've always had dogs in my life, so when I finally moved away from home and bought my own place it felt like something was missing. Me & V talked about getting puppies and we both wanted the same type of dog, so I started doing my research. I came across this website and started looking for the types that are availible.

Another dog blog...

I decided to start this blog to document the whole process of puppy/dog ownership. I like the fact that I will be able to look back on the whole experience one day and enjoy every moment of it all.
